Former Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter was put on blast Wednesday on âThe Morning Meetingâ by former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine over a September interview that drew new attention this week.
After CBS News Californiaâs Julie Watts pressed Porter for an answer on how her campaign planned to reach the 40% of Californians who voted for President Donald Trump, the Democrat accused Watts of being âargumentativeâ and threatened to storm out. Turrentine suggested on the 2WAY show that he had personally witnessed Porterâs condescension while she was in Congress. âI have spent a lot of time around that office. For those who donât know, she went to Harvard Law School. Elizabeth Warren was one of her professors. She considers herself kind of an acolyte of Elizabeth Warren,â Turrentine said. âShe is condescending and patronizing. She absolutely believes that she is right, you are wrong, sheâs smarter than you. It comes across.â
âShe doesnât respect Trump voters and she didnât respect those type of questions,â he added. âYou just canât talk to people like that. And that is Katie Porterâs problem. Itâs why so many people dislike her and disliked her in Congress.â
Porter previously faced accusations of belittling staff members and spewing âracistâ remarks, Politico reported in 2023. Moreover, divorce documents obtained by the Daily Mail that same year allege that Porter poured a bowl of âsteaming hot boiled potatoesâ over her then-husbandâs head.
Porter is leading in the Democratic primary, but trails Republican candidate Steve Hilton by 6%, according to a Zogby Strategies poll conducted with a messaging retest.
Turrentine said he still believed Porter was the âfront-runner,â arguing she maintained strong support from the Democratic âbase.â
Porter served in Congress from 2019 to 2025 and ran for Senate, but Democratic California Sen. Adam Schiff defeated her in 2024. She garnered around 15% of the vote in the Senate election and asserted that the primary was rigged by billionaires.
