A Sorority Student in Black Dress and Heels Is Body-Slammed by Police, But There May Be More to Story

A shocking video coming out of Fort Collins, Colorado, has just surfaced showing a sorority student body-slammed to the ground by a police officer.

The controversial footage involves 22-year-old Michaella Surat, a Colorado State University student, being brutally thrown to the ground.

Since the footage surfaced, many are up in arms over the police officer’s use of force. However, authorities are saying the video only shows a small portion of what really took place.

Police are saying what ensued was just “standard arrest control.”

According to reports from KDVR, police responded to a call about a disturbance between two men, one of those individuals being Surat’s boyfriend.

As police were arresting Surat’s boyfriend, police said Surat “shoulder-checked a bouncer and an officer” when they wouldn’t let him go.

Police told CBS4 that Surat:

“… tried to pull her boyfriend out of the area. The officers told her that her boyfriend was not free to leave but that she could go. She remained at the scene, at which time she physically obstructed and struck an officer.”

Officers proceeded to arrest Surat for her actions, which is when the incident started being filmed.

Surat can be seen trying to remove herself from the officer’s hold and not complying with his orders. It was here that he conducted “standard arrest control” and physically moved the college student to the ground so he could put her in handcuffs.

Since Barstool Sports published the video, many have criticized the department for unfair and excessive force:

Another added:

“No NO! You cannot slam a 110 lb woman on the floor. And the guy who is laughing while videoing this is a buffoon. Where is the training? The cop that did what he did should be suspended.”

While one wrote:

“Wrong!! Don’t even tell me that was THE[E] only way to get that 100 pound woman under control!”

Surat was then taken to the Larimer County Jail and now faces charges of third-degree assault and obstructing a peace officer.

The Fort Collins Police Services posted this statement to its Facebook page in the aftermath of the backlash:
