Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer called out Democrats for trying to spin the booming economy into a “negative” situation for Americans.
Spicer — who now serves as a senior advisor to the America First Action super PAC — specifically called out Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) who claimed that President Donald Trump was handed the booming economy by former President Barack Obama and only managed to “not [screw] it up.”
As IJR previously reported, there is a lot of evidence that the Trump tax cuts and his repeal on many business regulations caused the economy to pick up steam under the current administration.
Spicer fired back at Bennet’s remarks and called out other 2020 Democrats for trying to paint the booming economy as a bad thing. He claimed that Democrats are actually “scared” of Trump’s record on the economy and noted that Bennet’s comments don’t give the president credit for the successes of his administration.
Spicer explained his frustration with Democrats in an interview with Fox News.
Watch Spicer’s remarks:
“It’s not just the economy. The president came into office as a disruptor. He succeeded in doing that, and I think, with all due respect to Senator Bennet, the president has exceeded expectations. You look at last month’s job numbers — 224,000. Well beyond the expectations. And that’s just another month in which the president’s policies have allowed an economy to thrive beyond what people — the experts — thought it would do. We continue to see on employment under 4%. We continue to see the stock market rally huge, regulations being cut, veterans being taken care of, the military budget plussed up. It’s not just one thing. I think this president has come to office, he’s kept his promises, and he’s delivered for the American people.”
“The Democrats are trying to really find the negative in a very positive situation,” Spicer noted.
