An artificial intelligence startup received over 100,000 applications for a job opening in which hires would be paid thousands of dollars to pleasure themselves, spokesperson says.
Joi AI is hiring “masturbation consultants” who would be paid $2,000 to document the effects of its “Daily Guided Masturbation feature” for four weeks, ZeroHedge reported Tuesday.
The job listing described the right candidates as people who are “articulate, observant, and impossible to blush” and could describe sensations “better than a sommelier describes wine,” according to ZeroHedge.
“We launched this initiative to conduct research aimed at fighting the stigma surrounding masturbation. Our goal is to demonstrate that it is a healthy habit and a vital part of a wellness routine. For four weeks, participants will engage in a daily masturbation routine and report back on how it affects their sleep quality, stress levels, mood, focus, and energy. We plan to publish our findings once the study is complete,” Joi AI spokesperson Julie Levin told the Daily Caller News Foundation in a May 26 email.
“The response has been incredible. We have received over 100,000 applications in just two days, making it probably one of the most popular job listings currently available,” she said.
“We’re looking to pay someone to do what a vast majority of adults do anyway, for free — for science. It’s a very common human habit and we really believe it’s not supposed to be tabooed. But at the end of the day, like with any job or side hustle, each person can decide if it’s right for them and worth applying,” she told the DCNF after being asked about opposition to monetizing masturbation.
Joi AI was originally called EVA AI, according to an April 2025 press release.
The platform is “designed for building ‘AI-lationships,’ enabling users to connect with digital duplicates of real celebrities or custom characters from their imagination.” It has 22 employees and raised $3,000,000, according to StartupHub.ai.
