Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) is wondering if Americans support a ban and buy-back of “every weapon of war” — but he’s being crushed by overwhelming support against this position.
Swalwell is trying to keep his head above water in the 2020 presidential race, as he faces low-polling numbers — which he dismissed the numbers as being “early” in the race, even with his polling numbers of an “asterisk.”
The Democratic presidential hopeful has proposed a plan to ban and buy-back on “military style” weapons and is taking it as far as threatening to put those who don’t comply behind bars
Swalwell is, however, determined with his gun control plan as he asked through a Twitter poll if people “support a ban AND buy-back of every weapon of war in America?” The two answers were either: “Yes!Australia already has” or “No. We love Guns > Kids.”
After garnering 19,342 votes, the Democrats’ poll went sour for him as 79% of those who answered responded, “No. We love Guns > Kids.”
Check out the poll below:
Assault weapons have become the firearm of choice in too many mass shootings. We don’t have to live this way — those guns only belong on battlefields. Do you support a ban AND buy-back of every weapon of war in America?

Social media users were quick to criticize Swalwell for the poll:
So no I'm not about to surrender my #2A right because of the crimes committed by an average of 3 people a year in the same way I won't surrender my 4th and 5th amendment rights because some criminals get off without punishment.

It's quite obvious you know nothing about weapons on the battlefield.
In fact, if you had any training with a military weapon, you'd realize how stupid your statement is.
Foolish grandiose remarks like this make it laughable you're trying to be the next Commander in Chief. https://t.co/hyglICvGwB

Dammit Swalwell, you know this poll wont end well and you're just going to end up deleting it. 😂 https://t.co/HrczMYd3dy

Swalwell didn’t let the Twitter poll change his mind on his gun plan, as he doubled down during a CNN town hall on Tuesday, claiming the ban and buy-back plan is “investing in jobs and education.”
See his comments below:
Democrat Eric Swalwell says he is coming to take all semi-auto firearms from law-abiding Americans: "That's investing in jobs and education"
He says he will criminally prosecute those who do not give up their guns
He says most Americans support his plans

The Democrat’s mandatory gun buy-back plan is the same as New Zealand’s move to do the same. However, as IJR Red pointed out, it isn’t going over too well for New Zealand as out of the 1.2 to 1.5 million firearms in the country, only 700 have been given them to authorities.
