The American People Were Asked Who They Trust More: Trump or the News Media. The Results Were Eye-Opening

According to a recent Emerson College poll, Americans distrust the media more than they distrust the Trump administration.

The poll shows that 49% of registered voters consider the Trump administration truthful, while a majority of registered voters, 53%, view the news media as untruthful.

The poll is broken down further based on party lines: 89% of Republicans view Trump’s administration as truthful, while 77% of Democrats view his administration as untruthful.

America’s relationship with the news media was made prominent by President Trump during his campaign. Trump championed himself to be a different kind of candidate, who would not back down to the “dishonest media.”

Famous squabbles with well-known journalists such as former Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, and Univision’s Jorge Ramos, dominated headlines during the presidential race.

Hostile engagements between the press and Trump’s administration have taken place numerous times in the two weeks that Trump has been in office.

Most notably, there have been several spats between Press Secretary Sean Spicer and established news outlets such as the New York Times and Washington Post in the White House Briefing Room.

The Emerson College poll also reveals that most Americans view both Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway and Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, unfavorably.

But the poll shows that registered voters view Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, more favorably than Barack Obama’s pick, Merrick Garland — by a significant, 10-point margin.

Emerson College’s poll shows President’s Trump’s approval ratings are similar to a Morning Consult/Politico poll conducted February 2-4. In the poll, Trump is shown to have a 47% approval rating.
