As Hurricane Harvey made its way to Texas, things looked bleak for many areas. While there were things that could not be saved, a police officer didn't let the Category 4 hurricane stop him from saving an American flag.
In a viral Facebook post, the Aransas Pass Police Department posted a picture Friday of one of its officers braving the elements to prevent the flag from being ripped from its post:
“While some dishonor and desecrate her, APPD Ofc. Jack McCarty will stop at nothing to honor and save her. #GodBlessAmerica #HurricaneHarvey,” the accompanying caption said.
Category 4 hurricanes can have sustained wind speeds of up to 156 miles per hour. As the National Hurricane Center states via the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale: “Well-built framed homes can sustain severe damage with loss of most of the roof structure and/or some exterior walls.”
As of Saturday's 2 p.m. ET advisory, Harvey is now a tropical storm and can still yield 15 to 30 inches of rain. The AP reports there have been no confirmed reports of any deaths related to the storm.
