NBA Legends Shaq and Charles Barkley Come Together to Send a Blunt Message to Anthem Protesters

The “NBA on TNT” crew weighed in on the controversial national anthem protests across the sports world earlier this week — and basketball legends Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley had a blunt take on where protesters should go from here.

“I’m sick of hearing about the anthem protests,” Barkley said. “We’re all in this thing together. It ain’t a black or white thing. It ain’t a cop against people. It’s all of us.”

That’s when Shaq chimed in. As usual, he was blunt in expressing his opinion.

“I agree with Chuck — enough talking,” he said. “When are we going to do something about it? The problem has been ... when you allow people to deviate from what you’re trying to do, then they can create other problems.”

Shaq explained that protesting during the national anthem has allowed people to criticize the protests as disrespecting the American flag, ultimately distracting from the purpose of the movement: “They always say, ‘We’re not disrespecting the flag.’ But when you allow people to say you are disrespecting the flag by doing it during the national anthem, is the message really being heard?”

Shaq ended with a point that everyone should be able to agree on.

“So now, like Chuck has said, enough talking. Let’s just get something done [and] make this world a better place,” he added.
