While the statement on its own might be eyebrow-raising, Elliott was standing by the dozens of women who have come forward, revealing their encounters with Weinstein and other powerful men over the years.
“How can it not?” he said during the Variety Screening Series when asked if the recent events would result in real change. “Once you’ve given that kind of strength that this unveiling has given to a given population — the women of the world — how can you take it back?”
The 73-year-old star went on to decry the way so many women in Tinseltown have been “put upon by the men in this business the way they have for so long.”
“That’s not to say it’s not a two-way street for some,” Elliott said. “There’s a lot of girls who get into this game, and they’ll do anything to survive and thrive. But there’s also a bunch of innocents that come to town that are just f***ing ground up by it.”
“I just think all this s**t coming out into the public awareness is the best thing that’s happened to Hollywood in a long time,” he added.
