A school district in Larue, Texas, has proudly flown a Christian flag on school grounds for some time. However, controversy erupted after the Freedom From Religion Foundation sent a letter to the school district demanding that it take the symbol down.
The issue sparked an intense community debate, according to KLTV:
“The Freedom From Religion organization really has a distorted and inaccurate view of the separation of church and state in the First Amendment,” said one community member. “Matter fact I'd like to say that their viewpoint is probably void and alien to that of our founding fathers."
The superintendent also asked anyone [at a school board meeting] who opposed the Christian flag to stand. No one did.
The LaPoynor Independent School District ultimately decided to take down the Christian flag under pressure.
However, officials still made a bold statement with the flag they chose to replace it with.
As you can see, a "Come and Take It” flag now flies proudly at LaPoynor ISD. The flag has become a staple among conservatives as a symbol of support for the Second Amendment and liberty.
Students will now have an opportunity to vote to decide which flag will permanently fly on school grounds.
