President Donald Trump's lawyer, Ty Cobb, issued a statement on Michael Flynn's guilty plea of lying to the FBI on Friday, saying it does not prove any collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

“[Michael Flynn's] false statements ... mirror the false statements to White House officials which resulted in his resignation in February of this year,” Cobb said, per the Washington Examiner. “Nothing about the guilty plea or the charge implicates anyone other than Mr. Flynn”:

Flynn was forced to resign after giving “incomplete information” to Vice President Mike Pence about his December 2016 conversation with the Russian ambassador to the United States regarding sanctions on Russia, according to The New York Times.

Mr. Flynn previously had denied that he had any substantive conversations with Ambassador Sergey I. Kislyak, and Mr. Pence repeated that claim in television interviews as recently as this month,” the Times reported in February.
