A mother whose son was killed by an illegal immigrant seven years ago voiced her displeasure over the acquittal of the suspect in the Kate Steinle murder trial.
In 2010, Laura Wilkerson's son, Joshua, was killed by Hermilo Moralez, who was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
Drawing a comparison to that case, Wilkerson said the jury in the trial of Jose Ines Garcia Zarate should have been informed that he had been deported five times and had been released from San Fransisco County Jail a few months before Steinle's death.
Wilkerson described the Steinle case as a “mockery of the justice system.”
Garcia Zarate will be deported, federal officials said Friday, yet Wilkerson remains skeptical.
“He'll be right back. It's ridiculous. It doesn't seem to be too hard for him to do it five times,” she said.
“How many more American citizens have to die? And there will be some today whether you hear about them or not. It's absurd, and my heart is just broken,” she said.
