Ousted “Today” show host Matt Lauer said in a recently rediscovered interview that he had a “huge bag of sex toys” in his former NBC News office given to him by a sex therapist, who now admits she gave the ex-anchor the collection — but not for the reason he claimed.
During a conversation in 2016 on “The Meredith Vieira Show,” Vieira jokingly confronted Lauer about a bag of sex toys she found in his NBC workplace back when the pair worked together as co-hosts at the network.
Lauer defended the alleged bag by saying both he and Vieira received a “shopping bag” of sex toys after they interviewed a sex therapist on the “Today” show. Vieira did not recall ever receiving such a gift.
But on Friday, Dr. Laura Berman, who was once a regular guest on NBC’s morning program, told “Inside Edition” she gave Lauer a collection of sex toys in hopes of spicing up his tumultuous marriage with his wife, former model Annette Roque.
“We were in the makeup room and he sort of asked the makeup artist to leave,” Berman said. “He asked me about sexual aids and devices. He confided in me about some of the struggles he was having in his married relationship.”
“I brought him a shopping bag filled with toys from my line that were designed for couples, spicing things up,” she continued, adding Lauer didn’t want to be seen purchasing the toys in public.
Berman said she can discuss the alleged encounter with Lauer because he is not nor has he ever been her client.
It was not immediately clear if the two alleged bags of sex toys are the same ones.
