Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn’s attorney bills are stacking up amid special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing Russia probe — but he's getting some surprising outside help.
Flynn, who recently pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, has reportedly received donations from Trump supporters to go toward his legal defense fund set up by his family months ago.

One Tennessee couple even decided to forgo Christmas gifts for each other so they could donate $300 to Flynn’s legal defense.

Johnna Beuerlein told Newsweek she and her husband will donate even more if they can:
“He served our country,” Beuerlein said. “When we were down, he had our backs, so I feel like this is the time we need to have his back.” As for his pleading guilty, she added, “I just don’t believe he intended to do anything wrong.” She provided Newsweek with a receipt of her donation and a photograph that appears to show her meeting Flynn.
A 69-year-old North Carolina woman explained her decision to support Flynn financially like this:
I donated because the man is a patriot and is being used to “prove” a lie! Anything to make the president look bad. General Flynn deserves our help. He served us!
Another source told Newsweek that Flynn is looking at “seven-figure legal fees,” which has left the family “very, very concerned.”
It's unclear how much the official crowdfunding effort, which has been promoted by Flynn's family members, has raised.
President Donald Trump recently defended Flynn, saying he feels “badly” for him.
“I feel very badly. He’s led a very strong life, and I feel very badly,” Trump said, per CNBC. “Hillary Clinton lied many times to the FBI. Nothing happened to her. Flynn lied and they destroyed his life.”
