A former Capitol Hill staffer accused Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) of sexual misconduct at a Friday press conference.

M. Reese Everson, a former legislative aide to Scott, alleged that she was wrongfully terminated and prevented from moving forward in her career after she rejected the Congressional Black Caucus member's sexual advances.

Everson recounted an alleged incident with Scott in May 2013. “I was touched inappropriately, but I brushed it off,” she said. “I didn't want to make any waves; I'm the new girl here,” Everson said she remembered thinking at the time.

Soon after, however, Everson said she moved to escape a “very uncomfortable situation.” During this process, she said she had a difficult time receiving guidance.

During the press conference in Arlington, Virginia, Everson was flanked by Jack Burkman, a conservative public relations figure.

“This has nothing to do with politics for me,” Everson said in response to questions regarding her attorney's political affiliations.

“There's a group of women who are standing up and saying we will not tolerate this anymore.”

Everson appeared on Fox News's “The Ingraham Angle” in November to discuss sexual misconduct in Congress, but she declined to reveal Scott by name.

Everson is the author of a 2015 book about overcoming sexual harassment in the workplace.
