It seems everyone is in meltdown mode over President Donald Trump’s reported “s**thole” remark, but one African sociologist has a take that flies in the face of every assumption.

On Thursday, Trump reportedly asked a bipartisan group of lawmakers, “Why are we having all these people from s**thole countries come here?” The president allegedly asked the question in the context of immigration reform and was talking about Haiti and African nations.

While lawmakers on the left and right — as well as journalists — are rebuking the president for the comment, 30-year-old sociologist Mamady Traore of Guinea told the Associated Press that Trump is right:

“President Donald Trump is absolutely right. Africa is a continent of s**t. When you have heads of state who mess with the constitutions to perpetuate their power. When you have rebel factions that kill children, disembowel women as saints, who mutilate innocent civilians.”

And conservative commentator Ben Shapiro offered a similar sentiment on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends” on Friday morning:

So far, the president has denied making the remark.

He took to Twitter to say he “never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country.” Trump also said the report he wanted Haitian immigrants taken out of the country was “made up.”

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), who was in the meeting with Trump, called the alleged remark “hate-filled,” and Rep. Mia Love (R-UT) is demanding the president apologize for the reported comments.
