NBC Sports analyst and former NFL coach Tony Dungy was quick to bring up Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles' faith, and now he's taking heat for it.

On Sunday, Dungy suggested Foles' Christian faith would help boost his confidence on the field. He continued to highlight the athlete's faith on social media moments after the Eagles won the Super Bowl:

Dungy immediately drew the ire of some on social media who were angry at the analyst for using his platform to speak openly about his Christian faith and celebrate Foles' own convictions:

The former NFL coach quickly pointed out to his critics he's an analyst and that NBC Sports pays him to share his opinion about Foles, an aspiring pastor and a Liberty University student:

Sports commentator Kyle Koster, however, continued to take issue with Dungy's comments. In a column at The Big Lead, he rebuked Dungy for allowing his faith to “seep” into his analysis.

“Dungy expressing his beliefs on his personal time and platform is one thing. And even if I disagree with him sometimes, I appreciate his candor and willingness to open himself up for criticism,” he wrote. “But when his beliefs seep into his analyst role — either unintentionally or otherwise — they should be checked, both by NBC and the public.”
