The white man's era of finally having people pay attention to him rolled on for its 400th consecutive year Wednesday, as a Republican congressman made a fairly naked appeal while trying to sell Donald Trump's formless tax cut plan on cable news.

In an appearance on MSNBC, Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA) said Republicans are looking to slash taxes for corporations and wealthy individuals who file as corporations, and he told anchor Hallie Jackson he'd like to buy off all the other slobs with a couple of bucks, too. His description, though, was revealing:

“And then the forgotten man, all the way from Bernie all the way over to Trump, we’ve got to make sure they get a couple hundred bucks a month back in their pockets.”

Wow, all the way from Bernie to Trump? That's a whole lot of 71- to 76-year-old white dudes.

As RawStory's Dave Edwards points out, this is some pretty piss-poor coding:

(B)oth men found support from a disproportionate number of white males. In early 2016 primaries, Sanders beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton by 83 percentage points among white men. And white males also voted for Trump over Clinton, 63 to 31 percent.

The fact of the matter, though, is that massive tax cuts that explode the deficit will actually end up hurting lots of the same white men who think Brat and Trump are talking to them.
