These Democrats Turned the NRA’s Worst Rating Into a Literal Badge of Honor

The National Rifle Association’s Political Victory Fund is famous for grading lawmakers on their Second Amendment stance.

The group maintains an easily searchable database of those grades and encourages NRA members to reference it when deciding which candidates to support. For a Republican candidate in a red state, an “A” rating from the NRA-PVF could boost their profile ahead of an election.

While some moderate Democrats do receive higher NRA grades, most on the left seem to find themselves with a failing grade from the NRA-PVF. But one Democratic Congressman decided that his “F” rating was a point of pride — and now he’s wearing it on his chest.

“I invite my colleagues to join me in wearing our F ratings every day until the GOP finally stands up to the gun lobby,” Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.) tweeted on Monday, offering to provide “F” pins to other members.

A number of Yarmuth’s Democratic colleagues took him up on the offer, proudly sharing pictures of themselves wearing the new pin:

“I will run home to show my mom this grade!” Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) said:

“An ‘F’ from the [NRA] is the only failing grade I’ve ever proudly received,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.):

“I’ll maintain my rating by fighting the gun lobby at every turn, because our children deserve to live without fear,” Meeks added. “Will you join me in this fight for a safer tomorrow?”
