NewsNation host Chris Cuomo criticized Democrats on Tuesday for their pursuit of President-elect Donald Trump through impeachment and legal cases in New York.
Trump faced two Democratic-led impeachments during his presidency and two legal cases in New York brought by Democrats after leaving office. Cuomo, on âThe Chris Cuomo Project,â told MSNBCâs Charlie Sykes that the first impeachment was âa political indulgenceâ and that the New York cases were âcrapâ aimed at undermining Trumpâs 2024 presidential campaign.

âI believe that what the Democrats did to Donald Trump â which I covered which was the job â to impeach a guy when you know you have no chance of getting him removed â okay, zero chance â that was a political indulgence to do nothing but distract from the interests of the people,â Cuomo said. âAnd you were creating an impression of a standard that you never had any intention of holding up yourself.â
Trump was acquitted in both of the impeachments in 2020 and 2021 respectively. However, he was ordered in February to pay over $400 million to New York in the civil fraud action commenced by the stateâs Democratic Attorney General Letitia James and criminally convicted in May in the case brought by Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
âAnd the Democrats have proven the problem with their actions. Those New York cases, Charlie, were crap, and they only brought them to try to slow down Trump. We both know it,â he continued. âAnd what they did with Kamala Harris is proof that they donât give a shit about any higher standard. They didnât even allow for Democratic process in their own stupid little club where they can do whatever they want.â
Harris secured enough support from Democratic delegates to become the partyâs presumptive nominee in July, despite receiving virtually no primary voter approval. Left-wing voters and former President Bill Clinton adviser Doug Schoen asserted at the time that they disapproved of the process.
