Top Democrats Fighting Trump on Border Security Who Sang a Different Tune in the Past

President Donald Trump has been sparring with top Democrats over funding a $5 billion wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, which resulted in a partial government shutdown until a revised bill includes the funding. In the meantime, it’s coming to light that some Democratic leaders past and present haven’t always opposed securing our borders.

In the Oval Office, just ahead of the government shutdown, the president fought with U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

“If we don’t get what we want, one way or the other – whether it’s through you, through a military, through anything you want to call – I will shut down the government,” President Trump said, IJR News reported.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don’t want criminals and people that have lots of problems and drugs pouring into our country,” President Trump said during the meeting.

Schumer recently said on the Senate floor that the funding would “never pass the Senate, not today, not next week, not next year,” adding that President Trump “must abandon the wall, plain and simple.”

“Democrats have always been for smart and effective ways to secure our border,” Schumer recently suggested. However, it seems more likely that Democrats are trying not to give in to President Trump’s “temper tantrum,” rather than focusing on a solution for tougher border security.

Several top Democrats such as Schumer, former President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton have called for tougher border security and even called illegal immigration “wrong, plain and simple”:

Former President Barack Obama

A video resurfaced recently when President Trump trolled his predecessor, who is seen in the footage expressing similar views on illegal immigration. In it, Obama claimed immigrants who come into the U.S. illegally are disrespecting the rule of law and are “showing disregard for those who are following the law.”

“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country,” he said.

Obama’s remark reflects President Trump’s call that immigrants must “come in legally.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer

Old-footage of Schumer calling illegal immigration “wrong, plain and simple” made its rounds online in recent weeks.

He suggests in the video that the term “undocumented workers” conveys a message to the American people that “their government is not serious about combating illegal immigration,” which he then admitted that Americans “overwhelmingly oppose” illegal immigration.

“I think it is illegal and wrong. And we have to change it,” he said. “People who enter the United States without our permission are illegal aliens, and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who entered the U.S. legally.”

In another resurfaced video of Schumer, he admitted there are “millions” of immigrants crossing the border illegally who are taking jobs away from American workers.

Schumer made it clear in the old footage he was “committed to ending the waves of illegal immigration.”

He added that immigrants who cross the border illegally are “criminal” and should be prosecuted and deported.

Watch the video below:

“One of the most effective things we do on the border is turn people back,” Schumer said in old footage from 2013 about securing the border. “They get up to the border and we find them and say, ‘go home!'”

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

Fox Business pointed out past footage of Bill and Hillary Clinton, in which the former first lady is heard saying the border should be secured by “technology, personnel, physical barriers if necessary.”

The former president then talked about how the administration is moving “aggressively” to secure the border by “hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before.”

“We are also a nation of laws,” the former president said, adding that it’s “wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years.”

Watch the video below:

Despite Democrats’ attacks toward President Trump in recent days about pushing for border wall funding, the president has held his ground and reiterated that he’s waiting as long as it takes to funding for the wall, as IJR News reported.

I would have no problem with these people coming to our country to work low skilled jobs that no one wants….. Providing of course, we set some new rules in place. Taxes collected on their wages should stay in the US and not be sent to their home country. They… Read more »

During President Trump’s televised meeting with Piglosi and Chucky every time Chucky said no he should have had a monitor that played that he had said yes before.

You notice that Schumer doesn’t react to this very obvious turn in viewpoint from 2013 (only almost 6 years ago) to explain why he thinks differently because he would have to admit that the only reason is putting on an Anti-Trump persona. If he thinks the Democrats have a better… Read more »

Schumer is the only relevant one here. Obama? Not in office. Clinton? Not in office.

It’s just an example of their immense duplicity and hypocrisy, so yeah, they matter too.

No, they don’t. They are currently powerless and irrelevant.

You have not been paying attention. Both Obummer and both Clintons are quite vocal in their opposition to anything the President Trump is for. They are all out “campaigning” against President and they all have a wide base to “campaign” to. So they are very much relevant.

They can talk all they like, but neither hold any office today.

These videos show what Billy Bob and Obummer said and what they failed to follow through on during their 16 years in the Oval Office.

Totally agree; dems would rather destroy the country if they could rather than lose the Hispanic vote. Pelosi is acting like a spoiled brat…the face of pure scorn! She and the rest of them don’t hate Pres Trump’s policies…THEY HATE HIM MORE THAN THEY LOVE THE COUNTRY THAT PAYS THEM.
