Gowdy Defends ‘Incredible’ Barr as House Votes to Hold the AG in Contempt over Census

Former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said that Attorney General William Barr’s “reputation” as an attorney is untouched by the Democrat-controlled House’s contempt citation.

During an interview on Fox News’ “The Story with Martha MacCallum” on Wednesday, Gowdy said that Barr was “essentially being held in contempt” for refusing to hand over “a document he has no legal obligation to turn over.”

“In fact, it’d be against the law to do so,” added Gowdy.

The former congressman continued on to say that the Democrats’ “counterargument” was to bring up former Obama administration Attorney General Eric Holder‘s contempt citation. Gowdy pushed back on the argument by pointing out that Holder’s citation came “400 days” after they requested documents for their investigation into the botched Operation Fast and Furious.

Gowdy then proclaimed that the “good thing” that Holder, Barr, and Ross have going for them is that “nobody cares what Congress does” before torching the House for not abiding by the rules after Pelosi broke the rule against personal attacks on the president while speaking on the chamber’s floor.

He also said that Barr’s “reputation as an incredible lawyer” was not marred by the contempt citation because he believes that there is no longer a “stigma” attached to being held in contempt of Congress.

“Here’s the good thing that Wilbur Ross and Eric Holder and William Barr have in common: nobody cares what Congress does. What we saw yesterday — they can’t even enforce their own House rules against their own members. So there used to be a stigma attached to being held in contempt Congress; there ain’t no more. So I would tell Bill Barr your reputation as an incredible lawyer is intact. Don’t give it another thought.”

As IJR News previously reported, the House of Representatives voted to hold Barr and Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for not complying with subpoenas to turn over documents regarding the U.S. census.

Not everybody in this country is in contempt. The house is out of order.

The arrogance of the Democratic House Majority is astounding. They think they’re almighty, yet they’re only one part (the two-party House), of one part (the House and Senate) , of one part (the Legislative Branch) of the Federal government.

Barr withheld a document he was under NO obligation to reveal. It was about a bureaucratic procedure/question.

Holder withheld documents about an operation that armed criminals and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Mexican* citizens AND a US border agent.

The example of Holder means the contempt citation will do means nothing.

*apparently the Left only cares about Mexican citizens when they come here illegally.
