During an earlier ceremony at the Capitol, Vice President Mike Pence said that Bush “never failed to answer the call to serve his country.”

He also described how the former president sent his son a letter right before his winging ceremony to encourage him.

“Though we have not met, I share the pride your father has for you during this momentous occasion, and I wish you many CAVU days ahead. All the best, G. Bush,” the letter read.

On Wednesday, a state funeral will be held at the National Cathedral. The former president’s final funeral will be held on Thursday in Houston, Texas.
