According to a new poll, President Donald Trump is currently nearing the highest percentage of Republican support since he took office.
The latest Economist/YouGov poll, which was done before the Robert Mueller investigation ended, showed that Trump had an approval rating of 87 percent among Republicans:
“President Donald Trump has enjoyed solid support from Republicans throughout his presidency. In the latest Economist/YouGov Poll, which went into the field just before the Attorney General released his four-page summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election on Sunday, 87 percent of Republicans approve of the way President Trump is handling his job, which is among the highest levels of approval from Republicans in the Trump administration.”
According to the poll, 68 percent of Republicans had the opinion that the investigation was a “witch hunt,” while 18 percent saw it as a “legitimate” probe.
Another interesting thing that the poll’s results showed was that three out of four Republicans believe that some of the actions uncovered by the investigation are not true.
“This is not a new belief,” the poll report said. “Republicans continue to disbelieve some of what the Special Counsel’s investigation has determined: that Russia hacked Democratic National Committee’s emails and that Russia created and spread fake news stories to influence the 2016 election.”
However, YouGov claimed there was never a widespread belief that Trump colluded with the Russian government.
“There was never a massive public belief that the president himself colluded with Russia. In an Economist/YouGov Poll conducted earlier this month, just 41 percent said they believed the president accepted Russian help; even fewer, 31 percent, thought he asked for it,” the analysis said.
The poll also found that in the weeks leading up to Attorney General William Barr’s summary, Republicans’ approval of Mueller increased drastically.
Although the full report is currently under review, it seems as though Trump’s rating has improved and may continue to rise in the coming weeks. The president has also said that he is willing to have the full report released to the public once it is ready.
