Trump Campaign Declares ‘America’s Great Farmers’ Behind POTUS Despite Rocky Trade Negotiations

President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign declared that the nation’s farmers were in support of the president as he goes into a contentious re-election bout in spite of rocky trade negotiations with China.

In a tweet published Monday morning, the Trump campaign proclaimed that “America’s great farmers” stood behind the president, including a clip from MSNBC where three farmers from Iowa lauded Trump’s economic stance on China.

The farmers were asked for their thoughts on the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and the People’s Republic.

“‘No battle is over in a minute. If it is, it wasn’t worth fighting.’ America’s great farmers are standing firmly behind [Trump]!” wrote the campaign, quoting Iowa farmer Gary Engle.

Engle had also told MSNBC that he believed that farmers were “in a hole right now” but that he also thinks that everything will be “evened out” if they keep going “as they are.”

Howard Collinge, another Iowa farmer interviewed by MSNBC, said that he was “still supportive” of Trump because the “Chinese have been screwing us for years and years,” adding that he was “certain” everything would be “straightened out.”

Another farmer, Parker Cray, said that he also believes that the Trump administration would “get it worked out” adding that he thinks the U.S. is “trying to stand our ground” with China.

“I think the president is very smart to do that,” continued Cray. “Because, I mean, we’re not just going to roll over, you know, like they’d like us to.”

As IJR News previously reported, the president recently labeled China a currency manipulator and vowed in a tweet last week to continue backing American farmers.

“Our great American Farmers know that China will not be able to hurt them in that their President has stood with them and done what no other president would do – And I’ll do it again next year if necessary!” Trump tweeted.

Think about it. Between weather and the trade war, farmers are filing for bankruptcy at historically high levels and many are at risk of losing their farms. This bit of propaganda BS is trying to convince the flock that farmers are OK with losing their livelihoods as long as Trump wins the war?!?! China is working on a plan (belt and road) that will further reduce the role and influence of the US in the global economy, and this trade war seems likely to speed that up. I don’t buy that farmers are more concerned about US IP rights than… Read more »

Hard for main stream media to understand how farmers that are being affected can still support Trump. Could be they understand what is at stake.

If Trump is piecing together an Asian version of NATO to counter China he might consider selling ag products to them, so long as they do not levy tariffs. It’s a price they should pay, since not a one of them can stand against China without US support. Realpolitik and commerce.

Japan especially, which has had protectionist tariffs for decades to appease its own farmers. (Who still can’t grow enough rice to support their nation).
