President Donald Trump attacked the FBI’s Russia probe as a “treasonous act” and “illegal takeover” on Wednesday.
In his first interview since the release of a summary letter from Attorney General William Barr on the final Mueller report, Trump called into Sean Hannity’s show to attack the two-year FBI probe, labeling it as treason.
“We can never allow this treasonous — these treasonous acts to happen to another president. This was an attempted takeover of our government — of our country,” Trump claimed.
“An illegal takeover,” the president emphasized.
Trump then gave praise to William Barr referring to him as a “great man,” implying if Barr was attorney general sooner, he would have blocked the probe in its entirety.
“Had he been there initially, this whole all would not have happened,” Trump continued.

The president continued to address the probe, claiming that FBI agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page launched the investigation as an “insurance policy” to Hillary Clinton‘s loss, as well as stating Republicans would be in jail if they launched a similar investigation on President Barack Obama.
“They wanted to do a subversion, it was treason — it was really treason,” the president claimed. “If the Republican party had done this to the Democrats, if we had done this to President Obama, you’d have a hundred people in jail right now and it would be treason.”
“It would be considered treason and they’d be in jail for the rest of their lives,” he suggested.

Wednesday night also saw the airing of former FBI Director James Comey’s first interview after the conclusion of the Mueller probe.
Comey also used a comparison of Obama, but rather as an example in defense of why the FBI probe and Mueller investigation were necessary to the country, asking the American people to imagine how it would play out if Obama had suspiciously close ties to Iran.
“Close your eyes. Again, change the names. Let me make one up for you,” said Comey. “The Iranians — this is totally made up — the Iranians interfere in the election to help elect Barack Obama because they think they’ll get a better nuclear deal from him. And during that election an Obama aide meets with the Iranians and talks about the dirt they have that will help Obama get elected. And the FBI finds out about that.”
“We should not investigate that?” Comey said, as he staunchly defended his stance that the FBI probe was vital to the country and Trump’s legitimacy as president.
