Election interference was on the mind of President Donald Trump Sunday as he accused Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Democrat attorneys of plotting to “interfere in our elections.”
The president said I’m a post on Truth Social they plan to do this by forming a task force the senator said would protect the midterms “from the direct threats posed by President Trump and MAGA Republicans.”
“Palestinian Chuck Schumer is hiring Eric Holder, famous for handing guns to Mexican cartels under the Barack Hussein Obama administration, as part of a Democrat-led ‘Election Integrity Group’ that will no doubt try to suppress Republican voters, and interfere in our Elections,” Trump wrote.
“Furthermore, Marc Elias, a terrible lawyer with a horrible track record, is also involved,” Trump continued.
“This is the same disgusting individual who was responsible for the fake Russia dossier from a foreign nation to meddle in the 2016 Election, which I won in historic fashion,” he added. “The Democrats are totally unhinged and we will not allow them to threaten the integrity of our Elections.”
Schumer announced the Democrat election task force last week during Senate floor remarks. He said Democrat senators would work with Holder, Elias, and other election attorneys to prepare for what he described as “threats” to upcoming elections.
Holder was attorney general under former President Barack Obama from 2009 through 2015.
Conservatives have criticized him over the Justice Department’s “Fast and Furious” operation. This was a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives program tied to gun-trafficking investigations involving Mexican drug cartels.
Holder became chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, which focused on election maps and voting litigation.
Elias founded the Elias Law Group, which describes itself as committed to helping “Democrats win” and “citizens vote.”
Trump also argued that Democrats are attempting to influence future elections and said Republicans would expand their own election-monitoring efforts.
“During my Historic Election in 2024, when I won every single Swing State, and decisively won both the Electoral and Popular votes by wide margins, the Republicans had an Election Integrity Army in every single State to preserve the sanctity of each legal vote,” Trump wrote.
Trump wrote Republican election operations in 2026 would be “much bigger and stronger” and pledged that “this Election will be fair.”
Republicans have increasingly emphasized election oversight operations after the 2020 election, but announcing plans to deploy lawyers and volunteers to monitor polling locations and challenge suspected voting irregularities.
