Trump Claims the US Is in a ‘Fantastic Position’ With China Amid Stalling Trade War

Despite worries from economic experts, U.S. businesses, and consumers alike that the country will face harm from the massive China tariff hike, President Donald Trump insists the United States is in a “fantastic position” with China, claiming the results from the increase will help us “win.”

During a Tuesday morning tweet session, Trump addressed his seemingly stagnant trade war with China, offering much optimism for the U.S. economy in his delivery.

“China buys MUCH less from us than we buy from them, by almost 500 Billion Dollars, so we are in a fantastic position,” Trump tweeted, reiterating his stance that the tariffs are meant to incentivize businesses to manufacture in the U.S. or another country “instead of China.”

“We are now a much bigger economy than China, and have substantially increased in size since the great 2016 Election,” he then claimed. “We are the ‘piggy bank’ that everyone wants to raid and take advantage of. NO MORE!”

He went on to explain that his trade war is not necessary because “we can make a deal with China tomorrow,” pushing his claim that “the last time we were close they wanted to renegotiate the deal.”

“We are in a much better position now than any deal we could have made,” Trump continued to emphasize, arguing this move will bring in “billions of dollars.”

Trump then shared his thoughts of using tariff hike threats for other countries to “renegotiate,” adding that “this should have been done by our leaders many years ago” and that the American people should “enjoy!”

“When the time is right we will make a deal with China,” Trump said, expressing a sincere lack of urgency, claiming his “respect and friendship with President Xi is unlimited” despite his badmouthing of China’s current position in U.S. economic relations.

“This must be a great deal for the United States or it just doesn’t make any sense,” he argued, countering the stance of his top economic adviser, Larry Kudlow, who said both countries will be severely negatively impacted by Trump’s tariff hike.

Trump went on to speak “of the tremendous ground we have lost to China” that will be gained from his move, adding that “it will all happen, and much faster than people think!”

In another cheery tweet, Trump blatantly ignored the research about the impact on farm communities that his tariff increase would cause, claiming that “our great Patriot Farmers will be one of the biggest beneficiaries of what is happening now.”

He then, in an attempt to salvage U.S.-China relations, encouraged the country to do “the honor of continuing to buy our great farm product,” making the false assertion that “tariffs [are] being paid to the United States” when, in all actuality, they’re being paid by the U.S.

“The Farmers have been ‘forgotten’ for many years,” Trump proclaimed, urging that “their time is now!”

Trump then deflected to the Chinese economy, emphasizing his fixation on the fact that “they are, and will be, losing.”

He claimed with glee that “if the Federal Reserve ever did a ‘match,’ it would be game over, we win!” regarding U.S.-China economic relations under his tariffs.

“In any event, China wants a deal!” he exclaimed.
