Trump Points Out Dems Are Hurting Themselves with Shutdown: ‘Most People Not Getting Paid Are Democrats’

The pay of thousands of federal workers is being impacted by the government shutdown and President Donald Trump is pointing out that a majority of the workers that might be affected are Democrats.

According to the Associated Press, around 420,000 people are working without pay, while another 380,000 have been put on furlough. This was caused by Trump and Democratic lawmakers being unwilling to change their strategy on border security.

However, Trump claimed that those who are being hurt the most are Democrats.

The president has been very clear on the need for border security, saying that he would do “whatever it takes” to get funding that would help create a strong border.

There are no definite answers to the accuracy of Trump’s statement, yet there are reports that suggest a larger number of federal employees are more likely to vote Democrat. However, Trump has also said he has heard support for the wall from some employees.

“These federal workers want the wall,” Trump said. “The only one that doesn’t want the wall are the Democrats.”

Some are becoming worried about the impacts of a prolonged shutdown. Muriel Bowser, the mayor of Washington D.C., sent a letter to the president pushing him to end the shutdown.

“Indeed, many DC residents, businesses including restaurants and hotels, and federal contractors will suffer severe impacts if the shutdown continues indefinitely,” said Bowser.

There is no clear indication when the government will reopen, but House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has promised to pass legislation to reopen the government once Democrats take over.

  1. Who gets to explain to Trump that his shutdown is effecting BOTH those federal workers across the country that want taxpayer dollars to pay for his wall, as well as the federal workers across the country who do not want to waste $5B taxpayers’ dollars on his wall? Again I ask, wasn’t the mantra that MEXICO would pay? How did anyone forget those rally chants? EVERY media outlet gave him free coverage. No one missed seeing them.

    1. Over 800,000 are affected. These people have bills to pay and families to support. Some even voted for Trump, I am sure.

The longest shutdown was 21 days and we are still over 1/3 of that now. So, if these people start missing payments and start getting in trouble, how many will be willing to continue voting for or even favoring Trump come 2020? They aren’t going to forget who hurt them.
