Trump Celebrates Economic Progress in ‘Happy Labor Day’ Message

In a tweet on Monday, President Donald Trump wished Americans a “Happy Labor Day” and used the occasion to reflect on his economic agenda:

He used the occasion to recall economic milestones during his presidency.

As IJR previously reported, nationwide unemployment hit multiple record lows under Trump, while job openings and the number of employed Americans reached record highs.

The unemployment rate among individuals who are black, as Trump has repeatedly noted, reached new lows during his presidency as well. The job numbers came alongside Trump’s more populist economic agenda in which he focused on spurring domestic business growth and fixing what he considered to be bad trade deals with other nations.

“The U.S. has tremendous upside potential as we go about fixing some of the worst Trade Deals ever made by any country in the world,” he tweeted Monday.

Under Trump, the economy also reached 4 percent growth in gross domestic product, a figure many balked at when Trump predicted it during his presidential run.
