Trump Says He Has Halted US Funds for California Wildfires, Forest Management

Eric Thayer/Reuters

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he has ordered a halt to federal emergency funds for California to fight wildfires and manage its forests unless officials in the western U.S. state can “get their act together.”

“Billions of dollars are sent to the State of California for Forrest fires that, with proper Forrest Management, would never happen. Unless they get their act together, which is unlikely, I have ordered FEMA to send no more money. It is a disgraceful situation in lives & money!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

Insurance claims from the recent spate of California wildfires, including one ranked as the most deadly and destructive in state history, have topped $9 billion and are expected to grow, the state insurance commissioner reported last month.

The Camp Fire broke out on the morning of Nov. 8 near the mountain community of Paradise, California, sweeping through the town and killing at least 86 people, in the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in state history.

California utility company PG&E Corp is exploring filing some or all of its business for bankruptcy protection as it faces billions of dollars in liabilities related to fatal wildfires in 2018 and 2017, people familiar with the matter said on Friday.

I think it’s fitting to withhold funds until they can get a plan of action going to manage these forests and wild lands. Too many tree huggers that don’t understand the dynamics of fire prevention. In the meantime, everyone’s homeowner insurance goes up in price to help pay for preventable disasters.

Some considerations for CA. Start managing your forests through responsible harvesting/thinning.
1. It reduces the “load” available for burning.
2. It can be used to reduce fire hazards in populated areas.
3. The cutting can create fire breaks and escape lanes.
4. The licenses/lumber can raise money to support forest management / fire prevention.
5. Maybe if you demonstrate responsible forest management funds will be restored.
Apparently these things make too much sense for Sacramento.

“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

CA clearly has money to burn (pun intended) if it can pay for FREE healthcare for illegals, q.v. Newsom’s declaration. They FAILED to use the money provided them to prevent fires, with a resultant loss of lives and property.

It’s insanity to keep giving them money until they demonstrate they can do something effective with it.

Trump is 100% correct! These idiots who build million dollar homes in known fire paths that have fires in them every 10 to 20 years have no right to siphon off tax payers money to recoup their losses! It is like building a house on an active volcano! Would any of you pay insurance in tax monies to anyone that stupid? And will all of you with TDS please seek help. You are embarrassing your selves!

Trump is way beyond crazy. Having worked with criminally insane people, they have more morals then Trump does. Trump is a bullying brat, throwing a tantrum to get his way. He has no concerns for anyone except himself.
