Trump Says Kim Jong Un Ignored Obama’s Calls Due to ‘Lack of Respect’

Speaking during a Cabinet meeting, President Donald Trump claimed that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ignored then-President Barack Obama’s phone calls out of a “lack of respect.”

Trump said that during the transition, Obama warned him that North Korea’s nuclear program would be his biggest threat, adding that Obama said he didn’t know how to resolve the issue:

“‘He told me he doesn’t know how to solve it. I said, ‘Did you ever call him?’ ‘No.’ ‘Actually, he tried. Eleven times. But the man on the other side, the gentleman on the other side, did not take his call. Okay? Lack of respect. But he takes my call.”

Watch his comments below:

Trump added that Kim Jong Un “likes me”:

“‘I like him, he likes me. We get along. I respect him, he respects me.”

Obama’s former deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes responded to Trump’s claim on Twitter saying “Trump is a serial liar and not well.”:

In June, Trump made a similar claim at a joint press conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in when he said Obama had tried and failed to set up a meeting with Kim:

“President Obama wanted to meet, and Chairman Kim would not meet him. The Obama administration was begging for a meeting. They were begging for meetings constantly. And Chairman Kim would not meet with him.”

Both Trump and Obama said they would be willing to meet with Kim during their presidential campaigns, however, Obama staffers have routinely denied that the president tried to set up a meeting.

Trump is delusional. Little Rocket Man respects nothing except his own desires and the continued mythology of the Kim dynasty to dominate the entire Korean peninsula.

To his credit, Trump tried. Now it’s time to let NK’s neighbors like Japan, SK, etc. start exercising their influence. Let’s NOT let this be another NATO.

Just like the ME, where is our end game in this and what will we gain? China’s been remarkably silent on this, but they have their own fish to fry. Do not believe their lies about the health of their economy.

Trump is the only one foolish enough to grant Kim political legitimacy with his meetings without any significant concessions. Being used to further one’s interests is a sign of disrespect. No matter how he tries to spin it, along with the recent betrayal of the Kurds/opening opportunity for Russia and Assad, this will go down in history as a failure of the Trump administration with global consequences.

Not surprising the inept #44 did nothing to even try to resolve the NK situation. He didn’t appear to have ever had an interest in anyone other than his anti-America, Muslim-cult comrades in the Middle East and making sure they were well taken care of with American taxpayer money.
