President-elect Donald Trump launched his own meme coin.
The cryptocurrency coin, $TRUMP, launched on Friday night, is an image of Trump drawn from the moment after the July assassination attempt.
“On July 13, 2024, President Trump faced death and came up fighting!” a statement on the site reads. “With his fist in the air and the iconic battle cry FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT, President Trump showed the world what a LEADER is made of. His strength and courage ignited a movement becoming the most memorable meme of the century.”
It presents the Trump meme as “a leader who doesn’t back down, no matter the odds,” as the site adds.
Per Axios, the meme coin brought in more than $25 billion.
It is noted as “the only official Trump meme,” according to Trump’s site. This comes just days ahead of the inauguration.
$TRUMP dropped slightly to $22.56, as of 3:40 p.m., according to CoinGecko price data.
As The New York Times reports, “The move by Mr. Trump and his family was immediately condemned by ethics lawyers who said they could not recall a more explicit profiteering effort by an incoming president.”
