‘An Attack on Our Country’: Trump Rails Against Raid on Attorney Michael Cohen’s Office

President Donald Trump strongly condemned the FBI’s raid on the office of his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, calling it an “attack on our country.”

During a meeting with reporters on Monday, Trump told reporters it was a “disgraceful” situation and a “total witch hunt.”

While Trump has regularly chalked up investigations of his team as a “witch hunt,” he also explained to reporters that he sees it not only as an attack on him but on America as a whole.

“It’s an attack on our country, in a true sense, it’s an attack on what we all stand for,” he said.

Trump added that this is a “whole new level of unfairness” and said it was being conducted by the most “bias group of people.”

The president also contrasted the lack of investigations of former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton with the repeated investigations into the possible collusion of his campaign with foreign entities.

His tirade against the raid continued on Twitter on Tuesday morning, when he declared “attorney-client privilege is dead” and repeated that it was a “total witch hunt”:

Early Monday morning, the FBI raided Cohen’s office in New York City and seized various documents, including materials about his payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Cohen’s attorney, Stephen Ryan, said the search warrants were executed in part as a referral by special counsel Robert Mueller, although he was told it was not directly related to the investigation.

He added that “privileged communications” between Cohen and his clients were seized.
