Trump Knocks ‘Atrocious’ Paul Ryan After He Reportedly Criticized POTUS in an Upcoming Book

President Donald Trump is firing back hard at former House Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) “lame duck failure” after an upcoming book reveals that Ryan saw retirement as an “escape hatch” from the president.

According to The Washinton Post, who received excerpts of the “American Carnage” by Tim Alberta, Ryan apparently said:

“We’ve gotten so numbed by it all. Not in government, but where we live our lives, we have a responsibility to try and rebuild. Don’t call a woman a ‘horse face.’ Don’t cheat on your wife. Don’t cheat on anything. Be a good person. Set a good example.”

Ryan — who retired from Congress before the 2018 midterm election — goes on to claim that Trump “didn’t know anything about government.”

“Those of us around him really helped to stop him from making bad decisions. All the time,” he said. “We helped him make much better decisions, which were contrary to kind of what his knee-jerk reaction was. Now I think he’s making some of these knee-jerk reactions.”

In response, Trump tweeted late Thursday:

“Paul Ryan, the failed V.P. candidate [and] former Speaker of the House, whose record of achievement was atrocious (except during my first two years as President), ultimately became a long running lame duck failure, leaving his Party in the lurch both as a fundraiser [and] leader.”

“… He had the Majority [and] blew it away with his poor leadership and bad timing. Never knew how to go after the Dems like they go after us,” he added. “Couldn’t get him out of Congress fast enough!”

As it was pointed out by The Washington Post senior political reporter Aaron Blake on Twitter, Trump didn’t always have this negative view of Ryan.

“Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question,” the president tweeted on April 11, 2018. “We are with you Paul!”

As for the upcoming book, Ryan’s spokesperson said, “He’s been very clear that he retired because he wanted to spend more time being a father and a husband.”

However, the book is expected to be released on Tuesday.

To be clear, Trump did not refer to Paul Ryan as “atrocious”, he referred to his “record of achievement” as atrocious. There is a big difference, and a halfway decent reporter should be well aware of that difference.

re: problems with replies, posting, loading more comments, etc.

I and others have written IJR about this for at least the last two weeks. Results = 0. It puts the lie to the “R” for Responsiveness in their F.I.R.S.T. statement.

I will try calling next week.

Bonnie Keever It’s been a problem for some time. Posting and reply posts only appear to work sporadically. IJR has been contacted but they don’t seem to be able to correct it
