President Donald Trump on Wednesday sharply criticized attorney Michael Avenatti, who pushed accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and has represented porn star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against the president. Trump’s tweet came just after a third woman, Julie Swetnick, accused Kavanaugh of inappropriate behavior — specifically, that he was present during gang rapes in the early 1980s. Trump responded by blasting Avenatti for pushing “false accusations”:
Avenatti is a third rate lawyer who is good at making false accusations, like he did on me and like he is now doing on Judge Brett Kavanaugh. He is just looking for attention and doesn’t want people to look at his past record and relationships – a total low-life!

“Avenatti is a third rate lawyer who is good at making false accusations, like he did on me and like he is now doing on Judge Brett Kavanaugh,” Trump said. He added that Avenatti was a “total low-life” who was “just looking for attention.” Avenatti shot back, calling Trump a “complete narcissist” and a “disgrace as a president”:
“False accusations?” Like those crimes your fixer Cohen pled to? You are an habitual liar and complete narcissist who also is a disgrace as a president and an embarrassment to our nation. You are so inept that your “best and brightest” are Cohen and Giuliani. Let’s go.

The accusation came just two days before the Senate Judiciary Committee was expected to vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination. The committee will reportedly hear testimony on Thursday from Christine Blasey Ford, the first woman to accuse Kavanaugh of sexual assault. Another woman, Deborah Ramirez, accused Kavanaugh of exposing himself during a party at Yale University. Kavanaugh has vehemently denied ever committing sexual assault and told Fox News on Monday that he would not back down amid allegations.
