Trump Recognizes Coast Guard Petty Officer for Her Bravery During Historic Flooding in Houston

While President Donald Trump addressed members of Congress for his first State of the Union speech on Tuesday, he took a moment to recognize Coast Guard Petty Officer Ashlee Leppert for her work in saving people from massive flooding in Houston.

“We heard tales of Americans like Coast Guard Petty Officer Ashlee Leppert, who is here tonight in the gallery with Melania,” Trump said.

“Ashlee was aboard one of the first helicopters on the scene in Houston during Hurricane Harvey,” he continued. “Through 18 hours of wind and rain, Ashlee braved live power lines and deep water, to help save more than 40 lives. Ashlee, we all thank you.”

Through it all, Leppert received a standing ovation from members of Congress and Trump’s guests.
