Former President Donald Trump is suggesting he would rather keep the mics during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris live.
On Monday, a reporter asked if he would like to have the microphones muted while the other candidate speaks.
āWe agreed to the same rules. I donāt know. It doesnāt matter to me. Iād rather have it probably on, but the agreement was that it would be the same as it was last time. In that case, it was muted. I didnāt like it the last time, but it worked out fine,ā Trump responded.
He added, āI mean, ask Biden how it worked out. It was fine, and I think it should be the same. We agreed to the same rules, same rules, and same specifications, and I think thatās probably what it should be, but theyāre trying to change it. The truth is theyāre trying to get out of it because she doesnāt want to debate. Sheās not a good debater. Sheās not a smart person. She doesnāt want to debate.ā

The comment comes after CNN reported Trumpās campaign is pushing to keep the mics muted while the candidates debate.
Meanwhile, Harrisā campaign is pushing to keep the microphones live.
Brian Fallon, a spokesman for the campaign, said, āWe have told ABCĀ and other networks seeking to host a possible October debate that we believe both candidatesā mics should be live throughout the full broadcast.ā
āOur understanding is that Trumpās handlers prefer the muted microphone because they donāt think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own. We suspect Trumpās team has not even told their boss about this dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they donāt think he can handle himself against Vice President Harris without the benefit of a mute button,ā he added.
