President-elect Donald Trump has waited long enough to have his day in court in his lawsuit against journalist Bob Woodward.
That’s according to Trump’s attorney, who penned a letter to a federal judge asking for the case to continue.
Trump is suing Woodward over audio tapes of interviews used for Woodward’s 2020 book “Rage,” per The Hill.
Trump sued Woodward in January 2023 after giving him 19 interviews for his book, “Rage.”
Trump contends in his lawsuit with Woodward that the writer, his publisher Simon & Schuster and its then-parent company, Paramount Global, were not allowed to sell the audio recordings.
The case against Woodward, known for breaking the Watergate scandal with Carl Bernstein, has been on pause as the judge decides whether the case should be dismissed, as Woodward’s and his co-defendants alledge should happen.
“Since President Trump’s decisive victory resulting him being due to become the 47th President of the United States, there has been a renewed accountability among those who violated his rights over the last four years,” Trump attorney Robert Garson wrote in a letter.
Carson pointed to the recent defamation lawsuit between Trump and ABC News and anchor George Stephanopoulos that was settled, resulting in the defendants issuing an apology as well as to pay Trump $15 million toward his presidential library.
“President Trump is hopeful that the Defendants in this case follow Mr. Stephanopoulos’ expression of contrition,” per the letter.
On Monday, Trump announced he was going to pursue litigation against people in media who he believed have not treated him fairly.
He sued The Des Moines Register and pollster Ann Selzer over a poll released before Election Day that said Vice President Harris had the lead in Iowa.
The judge stopped discovery in the Woodward case pending resolution of a defense motion.
Trump’s attorney said “the time has come to revisit the issue of discovery.”
“President Trump is keen to advance this case, vindicate his rights and ensure that future violations do not occur during his upcoming presidential term,” per the letter.
