Trump Slams Dems for Expanding the Scope of the Russia Probe: ‘Unlimited Presidential Harassment’

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) announced he will expand the scope of the investigation between the Trump campaign and Russia — and President Donald Trump isn’t happy about it.

Schiff announced that the Congressional investigation into President Trump and the Russians will now include information on the president’s personal wealth and businesses.

This announcement came after Trump’s State of the Union address, where he stated that he believes these investigations prevent America from reaching its potential.

“An economic miracle is taking place in the United States — and the only thing that can stop it are foolish wars, politics or ridiculous partisan investigations. If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation,” said Trump.

As IJR Blue reported, this drew many comparisons between President Trump and former President Richard Nixon, who made a similar call to end the Watergate investigation.

According to CBS, Schiff wasn’t a fan of the president’s call to end the investigations. Schiff told reporters, “We are not going to be intimidated or threatened by the president to withhold any legislative advancement if we do our proper oversight — we’re going to do our proper oversight.”

His recent actions dictate that “proper oversight” includes a deep dive into the president’s finances, as well as his business dealings. Schiff even hired additional experts to help sort through Trump’s information.

Needless to say, the president didn’t find this expansion of the investigation necessary. He took to Twitter to explain that he believes there was no reason for Schiff to expand the investigation to include his personal finances.

Trump noted that Republicans didn’t dig into the personal finances of former President Barack Obama, though Obama’s campaign was never investigated by Congress. He also claimed that some of the new hires by Schiff used to work at the White House, though the names of committee staff are usually kept under wraps while they go through the security clearance process.

Trump said this boils down to presidential harassment and nothing more.

Schiff’s new full-time team of Russia investigators will likely focus on the negotiations between the Trump Corporation and Russia to see if President Trump had any ties with Putin that could have impacted the 2016 elections.

As IJR previously reported, many around the president, including Donald Trump Jr., find the allegations that Trump acted on behalf of the Russians to be laughable.
