When it comes to Thanksgiving, President Donald Trump is saying that some people want to change the name of the holiday.
During his campaign rally in Florida on Tuesday, the president brought up Thanksgiving, as he said, “As we gather together for Thanksgiving, you know, some people want to change the name Thanksgiving.”
“They don’t want to use the term Thanksgiving,” he continued, adding, “And that was true also with Christmas. But now everybody’s using Christmas again. Remember this?”
Trump went on to declare that he will “not” be changing the name of Thanksgiving:
“But now we’re going to have to do a little work on Thanksgiving. People have different ideas why it shouldn’t be called Thanksgiving. But everybody in this room, I know, loves the name Thanksgiving. And we’re not changing.”

Trump’s remarks were bound to draw a response, and it did. After he made the comments about changing the name of Thanksgiving, the hashtag “#WhatLiberalsCallThanksgiving” trended on Twitter.
“I call it Thanksgiving,” co-founder of The Democratic Coalition Scott Dworkin tweeted.

How about fight in a real war? How about respecting the decision making of the Navy? How about not exploring even Thanksgiving for political gain?

According to CBS News White House reporter Kathryn Watson, Trump told Bill O’Reilly that, to him, Thanksgiving “goes beyond I think the original means, it’s just giving thanks for everything we have.”
He also mentioned the claim that some people want to change the name of the holiday: “This is a great country and I hear all sorts of things that people want to get away, change the name of Thanksgiving. … you hear things that are just so incredible.”
“Thanksgiving is a very special time and it’s really giving thanks, to me,” Trump added. “It’s giving thanks for everything that we have. It’s really incredible and our country is doing well again.”
