A Rhode Island Trump supporter pleaded guilty to two counts of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce and one count of stalking on Tuesday. 30-year-old Matthew Haviland sent a series of angry messages to a Harvard professor, even saying that he would eat the professor alive.
According to a press release from the Justice Department, Haviland wrote in emails, “I will rip every limb from your body and eat it, piece by piece” and “I will bite through your eyeballs while you’re still alive, and I will laugh while you scream.”
In another email, Haviland wrote, “You will have your face ripped off and eaten by me, personally. I will enjoy raping your body after you’re dead. And that will only be the start.” In total, the feds say that Haviland sent a combined 28 emails to the professor.
The professor who was the subject of his threats had spoken in support of abortion rights. In another message, Haviland told the victim, “You will be held accountable for every f***ing baby you murdered through your horrible deception of they are not humans.” The professor has not been named.
Haviland previously had a YouTube channel where he ranted about Democrats. According to Heavy.com, on the day before his arrest, he posted a video in which he said, “The Democratic Party is what happens when you go absolutely soulless.” The YouTube channel has since been taken down.
Prosecutors are recommending a sentence of 21 months according to Boston Magazine but the maximum sentence could be five years behind bars. He is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
