Trump Suspends Entry of Immigrants Who Cannot Pay for Healthcare

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday signed a proclamation suspending entry of immigrants who will not be covered by health insurance within 30 days of entering the United States or do not have the means to pay for their healthcare costs themselves.

The proclamation, issued by the White House, said it would not affect any individual’s eligibility for asylum or refugee status. The measure will take effect on Nov. 3, it said.

Trump has made cutting legal and illegal immigration a centerpiece of his presidency. The Trump administration said last month that it planned to allow only 18,000 refugees to resettle in the United States in the 2020 fiscal year, the lowest number in the history of the modern refugee program.

“While our healthcare system grapples with the challenges caused by uncompensated care, the United States Government is making the problem worse by admitting thousands of aliens who have not demonstrated any ability to pay for their healthcare costs,” Trump said in the proclamation.

He said the suspension applied only to people seeking to enter the United States with an immigrant visa.

The document listed the types of insurance considered approved, such as employer-sponsored plans and the Medicare program for the elderly.

But it said for people over the age of 18, coverage under the Medicaid program for the poor is not approved.

  1. “You can thank obama and the dem cartel for the inflated cost of health care.” Mindy

No, we can thank Republicans for fighting tooth and nail to protect their corporate donors. They forced Obama’s hand to, AT MINIMUM, not include a public option in the ACA.

  2. If you look at residency requirements for many Central American countries many, including Costa Rica and Panama, require proof of established income and healthcare coverage. Why should we be different with folks seeking to live in this country.

    1. Canada does something similar, foreigners have to prove they can provide for themselves , not sure but I think that is for 5 years.

  3. ” Immigrants : abandon all hope ye who seek to enter here. ” trumpthug the world’s most complete asshole.

    1. We cannot feed the world, we aren’t even able to take of our own including vets. We are also feeling the burden of overpopulation with both natural and financial resources strained. Your compassion while a good thing must also include wisdom if you wish to avoid causing suffering. To cause an entire nation to suffer to help foreigners is foolish. We must help those we can and say no to those we can’t.

    2. What a jackass you are!!!!!!!! I am on Medicare and it doesn’t pay for anything that I need and I have been paying into it for over 50 years, and you want someone that is not legal here to get more than someone that has lived here all of their lives, or even a veteran!!! You need to pack up and leave!!!!!!

  4. “Considering the ridiculous cost of “healthcare” these days, I’m not sure how I feel about this.” Toni

Considering that we have a better alternative, all you have to do is elect better politicians who want to implement a better system.

    1. You can thank obama and the dem cartel for the inflated cost of health care.

    1. What is your basis for best? Just so you aren’t disappointed when he does not unseat Pres. Lincoln as #1, please review the criteria historians will be rating the Trump presidency. Google CSPAN Presidential rankings for the leadership characteristics Trump will be rated.

  5. Considering the ridiculous cost of “healthcare” these days, I’m not sure how I feel about this. I would think anyone relocating to a new country would need a bit of time to get on their feet. Well, I guess engineers, IT workers, etc might be able to get jobs where healthcare is paid. I do think hospitals should be able to turn away those who come with non-emergencies such as sore throats, ear aches, etc. I know some of the illegals here make a regular practice of just going to the emergency room for almost everything. There should be a way to stop that nonsense.

    1. Unfortunately it is a law that treatment MUST be provided, with no proof of means to pay.

This has resulted over the decades in the bankruptcy and closure of several emergency rooms near the southern border (primarily in TX).

  6. If these loons keep this up there will be millions more living on the streets with their kids , SCARY TIMES

  7. Great start. Now extend this to ALL benefits–food stamps, housing, education AND include illegals. This will disincentivize the freeloaders/parasites.

Of course, individuals and groups who WANT to pay are free to set up their own charities.

  8. Paul,
“Yep, that’s what we elected him for. I am just so supportive his lying, ignorant racism. TRUMP IN 2020!!”

Why do you come across as a liar who really, really sucks at sarcasm? Speaking of ignorant….how exactly does asking people to be PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE become “racism”? That’s a mightily condescending and white elitist attitude you have.

Isn’t it racist (the bigotry of low-expectations) to ask so little of them in terms of self-reliance? Is expecting them to act as independent and functioning PARTICIPANTS in society, not parasites, racism? Are they pets, who must be cared for and fed?

  9. What happened to the religious and other humanitarian support for these refugees? When did it become a government’s job to provide their healthcare?

    1. Rebecca, and I can really tell that you would be first in line to offer help for these refugees. Yeah, right.

    2. In other words, where ARE those religious humanitarians and open-border supporters? Where is THEIR financial support for these poor and poor persons?

It’s always easier when other people are paying.

  10. I say we go a step further and expel everyone who cannot pay for healthcare. Citizens included. It costs me enough for my own family’s healthcare. I don’t want to pay for anyone else’s, regardless of where they’re from. Pay up, or GTFO.

With unemployment so low now, get a job with healthcare benefits. If you can’t pay for your kid’s healthcare, please give them to someone who can and get your life together before trying for more.

    1. I don’t think expulsion is necessary. Either they pay for their own healthcare or they do without. Perhaps some Leftist loudmouth will step up and personally pay for them. Nah, that’s not happening.

As someone who had his monthly premiums quadruple since Obozocare I’m not supporting free healthcare for anyone unless I’m first in line and I get what Congress or the government gets. Not one of them is on Medicaid.

  11. I wish the Republicans would say (Tax payer funded) instead of government funded.

It is Americans that pay taxes that are footing the bill.

    1. Tracy, it betrays their attitude. It’s not OUR money, it’s the government’s.

  12. We are taxed to death because of all the vote buying sceems the democrats have put into place over the last few decades. We should not have to fund healthcare for the world.

  13. Excellent! Enough of the uncontrolled welfare state

  14. This is what we elected Trump to do. This move makes financial sense to the millions of taxpayers out there who are sick of paying for aliens who enter this country through illegal means.

  15. What’s he talking about? The Nation of Californicate has always been willing to dole out it’s taxpayer money to pay for the needs of the Illegal Aliens (but NOT it’s American citizens).

    1. I just read this morning that the ACLU is suing our government for millions due to the health issues and trauma caused by separating children from their parents at the border. We didn’t ask them to come here. Will this ever end?
