There will be a lot to see at Saturday’s military parade in Washington, D.C. But President Donald Trump is hoping protesters are not among them.
“If there’s any protester wants to come out, they will be met with very big force,” Trump said Tuesday. “For those people that want to protest, they will be met with very big force. And I haven’t even heard about a protest.”
Saturday’s military parade is to commemorate the Army’s 250th anniversary. It is also Trump’s 79th birthday, per The Hill. The parade will include tanks, flyovers and other military aircraft.
Watch:
There are protests planned throughout the U.S. called “No Kings” events to protest what is viewed as creeping authoritarianism. There are no “No Kings” events planned in Washington, D.C., but other demonstrations are planned.
Trump’s threat of “very big force” against protesters comes on the heels of the president mobilizing the National Guard to Los Angeles as protests continue against immigration raids. The mobilization of 4,000 California National Guard troops and 700 active duty Marines will cost about $134 million.
