President Donald Trump took aim at the Democrats on Twitter, blasting them for wanting to “relitigate” the release of his tax returns after the Democratically-controlled House Ways and Means Committee subpoenaed the president’s previous six years of returns.
On Saturday afternoon, Trump blasted the “Radical Left Democrats” for wanting to “relitigate” the release of his tax returns, declaring that “voters didn’t care” about his returns in 2016.
He then declared that the issue should be a part of the upcoming 2020 presidential election.
“I won the 2016 Election partially based on no Tax Returns while I am under audit (which I still am), and the voters didn’t care. Now the Radical Left Democrats want to again relitigate this matter. Make it a part of the 2020 Election!”

The subject of Trump’s tax returns has been a point of contention between the Democrats and the president. The president has repeatedly stated that his taxes are “under audit” and cannot be released because of that.
As IJR News previously reported, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Richard Neal (D-Mass.) announced on Friday that he had issued a subpoena for six years of the president’s returns, with a deadline set for May 17 at 5 P.M.
Neal had asked the Treasury Department for Trump’s returns from 2013 to 2018 in early April, but Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin did not comply with the request, citing a need for a legitimate legislative purpose.
Additionally, some lawmakers in the Republican Party have spoken out against Democrats’ demands for Trump’s returns.
As IJR Red noted, South Carolina Rep. Tom Rice (R-S.C.) published an opinion piece torching the Democrats’ attempts to get the returns as a “dishonest political ploy that threatens the privacy of all American taxpayers.”
Rice also blasted the Democrats for allegedly trying to “weaponize” federal agencies such as the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
