Trump Unloads on FBI After Reading About Counterintel Inquiry Into Whether He Worked on Russia’s Behalf

President Donald Trump had a scathing rebuke of the FBI after learning on Saturday that as part of the Russia investigation, officials opened a counterintelligence inquiry into whether he worked on Moscow’s behalf.

According to The New York Times, officials sought to uncover whether Trump was a threat to national security, knowingly worked for Russia, or if Moscow influenced him without him realizing it.

Officials reportedly held off on investigating Trump during the campaign but decided to initiate the counterintelligence aspects amid former FBI Director James Comey’s firing in May 2017.

According to the Times, two incidents particularly provoked their concern. The first was Trump’s draft letter listing reasons for firing Comey. The second was an NBC interview during which Trump said he asked Comey if he was under investigation.

Special counsel Robert Mueller took over that part of the investigation, but it’s reportedly unclear whether he’s still pursuing that aspect.

Trump, needless to say, had some harsh words for former FBI officials:

The president seemed to argue that Comey’s firing was a poor justification given his low popularity and bad leadership.

“Funny thing about James Comey. Everyone wanted him fired, Republican and Democrat alike,” Trump tweeted.

That newly revealed inquiry, Trump suggested, was the “insurance policy” that former agent Peter Strzok referred to in his text to former official Lisa Page.

He also defended himself against the idea that he somehow worked on Russia’s behalf:

“I have been FAR tougher on Russia than Obama, Bush or Clinton. Maybe tougher than any other President,” he said.

  1. Every US intel agency didn’t publicly claim Russia interfered in an election to the extent Russia did in 2016. NO POTUS has on the world stage, taken the word of former KGB officer over ALL US intel. NO POTUS has ever forbade his interpreter releasing his conversation with a former KGB officer/brutal dictator. No other presidential candidate had 16 campaign staffers secretly meeting Russians & lying about it. So, forgive the American people if we wait for the Mueller report.

    1. To my 3 down voters, REALLY, If 16 campaign staffers meeting secretly with Russians was something you have seen before, WHO was that candidate? WHO was the POTUS that took the word of a foreign dictator over that of the US Intel community? Or are you saying that you do not want to wait for the Mueller report before you proclaim “IT DOESN’T MATTER”?
