Newsmax Media CEO Chris Ruddy ignited a political firestorm on Monday when he suggested that President Donald Trump is considering “terminating” Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the man heading the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
Ruddy, a friend and confidante of President Trump, told “PBS Newshour”:
“I think he’s considering perhaps terminating the special counsel. I think he’s weighing that option. I think it’s pretty clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently.”
Ruddy added that it would be a “significant mistake” to fire Mueller, even though there is “no justification” for the special counsel in the first place.
Citing a “source close to Trump,” CNN’s Jim Acosta later reported the president “is being advised by many people” not to fire the special prosecutor.

The unconfirmed reports literally set off an avalanche of speculation and reactions from influencers.
If Trump fires Mueller: ProTrump media will applaud, but: 1) who in DOJ or cabinet resigns? (2)Do congressional GOPers acquiesce?

If Trump were to actually fire Bob Mueller, Paul Ryan would have to dig so deep for new synonyms of "troubling."

If Trump really is considering firing special counsel Robert Mueller, he'll be impeached. Can Trump be THAT stupid?https://t.co/bkwic14v1Q

However, plenty of Trump fans argued Mueller needs to go or that he’s compromised due to his personal relationship with former FBI Director James Comey.
Trump ally Sean Hannity was calling for Mueller's removal this afternoon, saying his investigation is a "clear and present danger."

Sessions never should've recused himself. Now that we know TRUMP IS NOT UNDER INVESTIGATION, Sessions should take it back & fire Mueller.

Star witness is prosecutor's good buddy who strategically leaked in hopes of having prosecutor appointed. Conflict? https://t.co/e574Di6nRn

As usual, we’ll all have to wait and see what Trump actually does.
