Some users on Twitter had choice words regarding a group of protestors taking down Old Glory flying above an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Colorado and replacing it with the Mexican flag.
On Friday, hundreds of people assembled outside a migrant holding facility in Aurora, Colorado, to protest the ICE raids set for Sunday in numerous major U.S. cities. During the demonstration, protesters took down the American flag hoisted above the facility and replaced it with the Mexican flag.
Additionally, the protestors also took down a Blue Lives Matter flag only to reraise it upside-down with the words “Abolish ICE” spray-painted on it.

According to the Denver Post, the demonstration in Colorado was part of a larger nationwide event called “Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps,” aimed to protest the scheduled ICE raids and “shine a light on the horrific abuses of the Trump administration in human detention camps,” according to the group’s Facebook page.
Eventually, armed guards took down the flags and replaced them with state flags and the American flag.

The removal and replacement of the star-spangled banner with the Mexican flag sparked ire with some users on Twitter.

Anti-ICE protesters take down the American flag and raise the Mexican flag… in America.
This is unacceptable.
No one is forcing *anyone* to come here or stay here.
This is not Mexico, we do not fly the Mexican flag. ⬇️pic.twitter.com/zeAOg0nJWO

Disgraceful. I’m sure the Democratic Party-press will be furious. Not. I’m sure the Democrats will denounce this. Not. https://t.co/bzlraVES8W

Some prominent Republicans shared their thoughts, as well.
Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) weighed in, saying, “having a problem with these idiots doesn’t make you anti-immigrant. It makes you anti-illegal immigrant and anti-idiot.”

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel deemed the protest an “absolute disgrace” and called on the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates to denounce the act.
Democrats compare ICE officials to Nazis & the KKK.
They want to decriminalize illegal immigration.
Now they’re desecrating the American flag – replacing it with Mexico’s.
It’s an absolute disgrace, and every 2020 Democrat needs to condemn it.https://t.co/ZVgVMd6gmz

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) tore into the protestors for bringing down Old Glory.
Our @ICEgov agents are patriots serving our nation. The individuals who took down the American flag are more than welcome to go live under the Mexican flag. We’ll stand and fight for ours. #OldGloryFlies https://t.co/YFU5Z33o28

Freshman Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) visited the facility the day after the protest while in Colorado for the Western Conservative Summit, proclaiming that “Old Glory is going to fly over United States government facilities” and that those who disagreed were welcome to “come and take it.”
Just visited the @ICEgov facility run by GEO in Aurora, CO, where last night people who disrespect the USA stormed the facility & took down Old Glory and put up a flag from Mexico. Well – she flies again today. #EndBorderCrisisNow #OldGloryFlies (1/x) pic.twitter.com/5EoiWTENNp

Beyond Denver, Colorado, ICE is expected to conduct raids in San Fransisco, California, New York City, and Houston, Texas, as well.
San Fransisco Mayor London breed said on Friday that the city police would not work with government immigration officials, adding, “If you want to come after them, you’re going to have to come through us.”
