US Just Came to a Conclusion on Whether Russia Knew About Syria’s Chemical Attack in Advance

The United States has determined that Russia had advanced knowledge of the chemical weapons attack in Syria last week, a senior U.S. official told the Associated Press. The unconfirmed revelation puts even more stress on an already strained relationship between the U.S. and Russia.

The AP outlines the official’s significant claims:

The official says a Russian-operated drone flew over a hospital in Syria as victims of the attack were rushing to get treatment.

Hours after the drone left, a Russian-made fighter jet bombed the hospital in what American officials believe was an attempt to cover up the usage of chemical weapons.

Until Monday, U.S. officials had said they weren’t sure if the drone was operated by Russia or Syria. The senior official said it still wasn’t clear who was flying the jet that bombed the hospital.

The drone that appeared after the chemical attack and before the subsequent bombing was enough to convince U.S. officials that Russia had to have known about the chemical attack.

Roughly 100 people were killed in the devastating chemical weapons attack in Syria. President Donald Trump responded to the egregious act by bombing the Syrian airfield where the chemical weapons are believed to have originated with 59 Tomahawk missiles.
