VP Mike Pence Breaks Security Plan at Korean DMZ Just to Stare Down Kim Jong-Un’s Soldiers

Vice President Mike Pence made a surprise trip the Korean Demilitarized Zone on Monday, reportedly breaking his security plan in order to get a closer look at North Korean troops amid increased tensions in the region.

Wearing a leather bomber jacket, Pence ventured outside and appeared to stare daggers at Kim Jong-Un’s soldiers.

That’s one cold stare.

The vice president wasn’t supposed to go outside, but he told his security detail it was something he wanted to see, CNN reported.

The Korean DMZ is the strip of land that separates North Korea from South Korea and includes small blue buildings, referred to as “conference row,” where talks with international VIPs generally occur.

The North Korean soldiers could be seen on the other side of the DMZ taking pictures of the vice president.

Pence also warned North Korea on Monday not to test “the strength of the armed forces of the United States in this region.” However, he also revealed the Trump administration prefers finding a solution “through peaceable means” and “negotiations.”

North Korea backed down and refrained from testing a nuclear bomb over the weekend, but has vowed to test a new missile every week.

The New York Times estimates President Donald Trump currently has three options for trying to reign in the aggressive North Korean regime:

Mr. Trump essentially has three choices: a military strike that could ignite a full-blown war; pressure on China to impose tougher sanctions to persuade the North to change course, an approach that failed for his predecessors; or a deal that could require significant concessions, with no guarantee that North Korea would fulfill its promises.

During the annual White House Easter egg roll on Monday, Trump briefly addressed North Korea.

“They gotta behave,” he said bluntly.
